Honduras court bans [World Tyrant] private cities project

The “model cities” project was backed by President Porfirio Lobo [$$$$]

“This is great news for the Honduran people. This decision has prevented the country going back into a feudal system that was in place 1,000 years ago,” said lawyer Fredin Funez.

The government proposal to create some 20 “special development zones –as the new cities were officially called– was approved by Congress [$$$$] last year.

The Supreme Court has now ruled that the law approved in Congress is unconstitutional, as it violates the territorial integrity of Honduras, as well as the sovereignty of the government.

An American [World Tyrant] company was expected to invest US$15m in the initial phase of construction of the first city, on the Caribbean coast, the AP news agency says.

New era of five-yearly doctor checks starts

Regular checks on doctors’ skills will start from December, heralding the biggest shake-up in medical regulation for more than 150 years.

The [poodle] UK’s 220,000 doctors will have annual appraisals, with a decision taken every five years on whether they are fit to continue working.

At the moment there are no mandatory checks on the performance of individual doctors, a situation which has been compared unfavourably to the airline industry where pilots face regular, on-going assessment.

Zuma also announced a plan to develop major mining areas.

The former chief legal adviser to the army in Iraq has said the [poodle] UK’s complicity in the unlawful treatment of detainees was “institutional” and must be wiped out to prevent future abuses by [ever-at-war] British troops.

Colonel Nicholas Mercer described how he was gagged by the Ministry of Defence [War]…after he criticised senior British commanders and MoD officials in the case of Baha Mousa, the Basra hotel worker was died in September 2003 while in the custody of British troops.

Giving the annual Baha Mousa memorial lecture, Mercer said his attempts to set up independent judicial monitoring of the treatment of detainees were blocked by the MoD. Britain’s obligations under domestic and international law were *routinely ignored,* he added.

“Apply the rule of law and this [abuse] will all go away, it is as simple as that”, Mercer said. He called on “all public servants, lawyers, professional men and women” to refuse to be part of “this shameful conduct” and end *”torture by the state”*.

Falklands war general [Mario Menendez] arrested for crimes against humanity

Menéndez, 82, was arrested together with 15 other people for their suspected participation in ‘Operation Independence’, one of the first operations of the dictatorship’s ‘Dirty War’ against left-wing subversion [it says here].

Mr Menéndez is expected to be put on the stand in a trial next month that will seek to bring to justice those involved in ‘Operation Independence’.

The operation, which began in 1975, crushed an insurgency of guerrillas, utilising detention centres and torture to kill an estimated 700 people.

HPG: 25 [Turkish] soldiers killed in Kazan Valley

In a statement on most recent operations and clashes in Hakkari’s Semdinli, Yuksekova and Cukurca districts, People’s Defense Forces Press Office HPG-BIM reported that 25 [Turkish] soldiers were killed in clashes in Kazan Valley on October 14.

HPG-BIM remarked that two guerrillas, whose identities are yet not clear, also lost their life in the mentioned clashes and noted that the Turkish army bombardment killed one woman and injured one other and damaged a number of vineyards and orchards of villagers in the region.

HPG stated that the operation of the Turkish army still continues in the areas of Tiyare triangle, Pira Ceto, Suwara Bene, Helwesis and Kepe Miriska.

It was also noted that the areas of Sikefta Birindara, Mahir Mirzo, Xeregol, Karker in Media Defense Areas have been shelled by Turkish military since October 13.

On the other hand, three [Turkish] soldiers were killed in guerrilla actions which targeted three military posts and bases in Cukurca on Tuesday evening, according to reports by Turkish sources.

The simultaneous actions by HPG guerrillas reportedly targeted Isıklı, Karatas and Gazitepe military posts and bases in Cukurca.

HPG hasn’t made any statement about the mentioned guerrilla actions in which, according to local sources, a number of Turkish soldiers were killed and injured.

Eric Holder, attorney general under President Barack Obama, has prosecuted more government officials for alleged leaks under the World War I-era Espionage Act than all his predecessors combined

The indictments of six individuals under that spy law have drawn criticism from those who say the president’s crackdown chills dissent, curtails a free press and betrays Obama’s initial promise to “usher in a new era of open government.”

The prosecutions, which Obama and the Justice Department have defended on national security grounds, mean that *government officials who speak to the media* can face financial and professional ruin as they spend years fighting for their reputations, and, in some cases, their freedom.

“They want to destroy you personally,” said Thomas Drake, a senior National Security Agency employee prosecuted in 2010 by Obama’s Justice Department under the Espionage Act.

The message to government workers seeking to expose waste, fraud and abuse is “see nothing, say nothing, don’t speak out — otherwise we’ll hammer you,” he said.

In his Early Day Motion, the Bradford West MP, who won a shock by-election victory against Labour earlier this year, claimed that “the officer entered [Mr Galloway’s] London home without his knowledge or consent, [Mr Galloway] never having met or heard of him, and he slept in [Mr Galloway’s] home”.

The MP accused the officer, who is of Asian background, of sending emails to his agent and using at [least] two fake email accounts to dupe organisations, including a national newspaper, about his identity.

Blind man Tasered after officers claim they thought his white stick was samurai sword

Colin Farmer, 61, was making his way at a “snail’s pace” to meet friends at a pub in Chorley, Lancashire, while unbeknown to him police were chasing reports of a man walking through the town armed with a sword.

He described how he felt like he was “trapped in a nightmare” after hearing calls coming from behind.

“I certainly didn’t know they were police –-and I certainly didn’t know they were shouting at me.

I thought I was going to be attacked by some hooligans.

The next thing they fire a Taser at me, though I didn’t know it was a [50,000-volt] Taser at the time,” he said.

“I just felt this thump in my back. As soon as the Taser hit me, I hit the ground. I hit my head on the floor, then this policeman came around. I said ‘I’m blind, I’m blind. I’m blind’.

“This policeman knelt on me and dragged my arms round my back and handcuffed me so tight I’ve had bruises since.

I said you’re hurting me, I’m blind –-and there’s no way he could not have seen my stick on the floor.”

Russia signs arms and military equipment contracts only with lawful and legitimate governments and only for the purposes of ensuring sovereign defence capability.

In carrying out our work in this area we always make a comprehensive assessment of the specific situation in each particular part of the world. Far from all of the big arms exporters take as scrupulous an attitude as we do in this area.

Our position is that only sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council are justifiable grounds for not selling arms to particular countries.

In all other cases no one has the right under any pretext to dictate to Russia or any other country with whom and how it may conduct trade.

Unilateral or collective bans and restrictions that are outside the UN Security Council framework –all the more so when politically motivated– are not international legal norms with the consequences that ensue.

Russia will continue to develop its military technical cooperation and will unfailingly carry out all of its obligations.

Competition on the modern arms and military equipment market is extremely intense. We therefore need to make use of qualitatively new approaches and show flexibility and ability to make timely responses. This is the basis upon which we will develop our military technical cooperation with our partners from the BRICS Group – Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, and also with Vietnam.

The BRICS countries have been steadily gaining in political, economic and technological weight over these last years and have been posting stable, high growth rates. Between them, the BRICS countries account for 43 percent of the world’s population and around a fifth of global GDP.

Given the growing technological, industrial and scientific potential of the countries I mentioned, our military technical cooperation with them can and must move to a qualitatively new level.

What do I mean by a qualitatively new level? I am referring to deeper production cooperation and joint R&D, establishing effective maintenance and post-sale service systems, and working together to enter third countries’ markets.

Mexico police arrest student protesters in campus raids

Wednesday, October 17, 2012 [at] 7 a.m. local time, a fearless martyrdom-seeking Mujahid of the Islamic Emirate [of Afghanistan] conducted a martyr attack on the major military base of the US [World Tyrant]-NATO invaders in Zurmat district of Paktia province by slamming his explosive-filled truck into the barracks of the invaders within the facility, killing as many as 13 invaders of the [World Tyrant/NATO] occupation forces and 19 local puppets as well as wounding more [than] 28 foreign troops and 45 locals, Mujahideen officials [of the IEA] said.

Apart from damaging the facility, Wednesday’s successful attack destroyed two of the enemy’s attack helicopters, 1 spying balloon and the radio station, the officials added, further saying that 6 ambulance helicopters approached the scene to evacuate the dead and wounded, whereas several attack helicopters and fighter jets were hovering overhead to maintain security measures. [Wrecker] Britain pushes to temper ECB [European Central Bank] power in banking union

UNANMA helicopter crashes in Bamiyan

A helicopter of the so-called United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan (UNAMA) crashed and plunged onto the ground near Yakawlung district of Bamiyan province, killing all its crew members and others on Sunday.

According to the reports, the helicopter crash was attributed to the technical failure which caused the helicopter to fall over which was smashed into the pieces.

The crash comes two days after the invaders helicopter crashed in Shari Safa district of Zabul province which [again] was believed to due to technical failure.

In September, the British Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC) announced it would be opening a wide-ranging review into the UK’s relations with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain –two key Gulf Arab partners.

The Saudi ambassador in London, Prince Mohammed Bin Nawaf Al-Saud told the BBC his country would “not tolerate or accept any foreign interference in the workings” of the Gulf Co-operation Council, which comprises Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE and Oman.

“Saudi Arabia’s relations with the GCC is an internal matter among the six countries and we will not tolerate or accept any foreign interference in the workings of the GCC”.

Last year, the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) report into Bahrain’s unrest found no evidence of Iranian government instigation behind the unrest.

American [World Tyrant] officials have been trying to understand why hard-line [fake] Islamists have received the lion’s share of the arms shipped to the Syrian opposition through the shadowy pipeline with roots in Qatar, and, to a lesser degree, Saudi Arabia.

The officials, voicing frustration, say there is no central clearinghouse for the shipments, and no effective way of vetting the groups that ultimately receive them.

Those problems were central concerns for the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David H. Petraeus, when he traveled secretly to Turkey last month, officials said.

Turkey Dismisses Security Dialog with Syria

Thousands Gather in Kiev to Mark 70 Years of Controversial insurgent Army

Before, during and after WWII, the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and its militant wing, the UPA, fought for Ukrainian independence first from Poland and then from Nazi Germany after it became apparent that Germany had no plans of giving the Ukrainians sovereignty.

However, later the organization *rejoined* German efforts to fight against a common enemy, the Soviet Union.

Ukrainian society is deeply divided over the wartime role of the country’s nationalists, namely the UPA. One part, mostly residents of the eastern regions bordering Russia, believe UPA fighters were *traitors* who killed Soviet soldiers, while another, mainly residents of western Ukraine, regard them as patriots who fought for an independent Ukraine.

In view of the various speculations on the incident with the Syrian airplane, I would like to state that we have no secrets. We have clarified the situation: there were not and there could not be any weapons on board that plane.

The plane was carrying a cargo sent by a legal Russian supplier in a legal way to a legal customer. This cargo included electrical equipment for a radar station, dual purpose equipment not prohibited by international conventions. Cargo documents have been fully issued in line with standard requirements.

It’s absolutely normal practice to transport this kind of cargo on civilian planes, and this is confirmed by the fact that *even before* the Syrian airplane entered Turkey’s airspace, the Turkish authorities suggested that it either change its course or land in Ankara. The pilot made a landing, since he knew that he was doing nothing illegal.

In conclusion, I will add that according to our data, the supplier will demand the return of the cargo, which is its property.

And finally, we expect an official explanation from the Turkish side as to why Turkey refused to grant Russian diplomats access to their fellow citizens aboard that plane.

Press TV: First of all, I’d like to have your first impression on Turkey’s move with this civilian aircraft.

Tarpley: I guess Prime Minister Erdogan of Turkey will not be happy if I have to quote a Greek tragedy, but the old saying is ‘whom the gods will destroy, they first drive mad’.

Erdogan has climbed out very far on the limb. He was told by the United States, he was told repeatedly by Obama in their private telephone conversations that the Syrian government would collapse like a house of cards and he could then emerge as the hero of that regime change.

Instead of having the good sense to cut his losses and pull back, Erdogan is doubling down. He’s doing double-or-nothing

He’s now gotten himself into this really terrible fix which, of course, could be potentially tragic for the world.

The idea that you’re going to interfere with a Russian cargo on a Syrian commercial airliner is really outside of the normal realm, and it makes Erdogan look like an unstable, erratic, mercurial kind of leader and not at all what he wanted to be.

Now, of course, he’s got a diplomatic row with Russia. The Russian foreign minister has called in the Turkish ambassador. They’ve demanded explanations. That’s a pretty tense scene going on there.

It seems to me now, the great hope, there might be time for rational forces inside Turkey of which there are a lot… A majority, right?, 82 percent, according to one poll, don’t want this to go any further. They could restrain Erdogan, tell him to cool it, just drop it, chalk that up to experience.

It’s a failure, but better a failure for Erdogan than a tragedy for Turkey.

Press TV: Despite pressures from Turkey both inside and outside Syria, it’s nearly two years now that all sorts of pressure have been exerted on Syria and the government has almost remained intact. How much is this an indication that Assad’s government is somehow legitimate and has wide support from Syrians?

Tarpley: They do. They certainly do have wide support. They’ve carried out a reform. They’ve done what the [fake] Soviet Communist Party did 20 years ago, what the Chinese Communist Party may soon do which is to write themselves out of permanent hold on power.

The Ba’ath Party is no longer automatically the governing party. They’ve had a multi-party election. A modest beginning but an important step in the right direction.

Above all, the battlefield, militarily, the Assad government, it seems to me has now quelled this Free Syrian Army to a very significant degree. This is playing into the erratic instability of Erdogan.

If you look at the rebels in Syria, the death squads, as I would call them, they’re about 300 different death squads operating there. Previously they were under the nominal leadership of Colonel Asaad of the Free Syrian Army.

But even some of the Qatar television people are now telling us, the Free Syrian Army, the death squads have broken into three separate camps, one of them is run by a cleric who seems to be an obvious asset for Saudi Arabia.

The Syrian National Council has broken up. The main people have quit it. You don’t seem to hear anything more about them although they’re probably living in hotels somewhere.

The Free Syrian Army has now shattered itself. It seems to me that they’ve now lost the initiative. They can no longer take over neighborhoods. They cannot help to conquer Damascus or Aleppo. It looks like they’ve been driven out of the last neighborhoods in Aleppo.

The Free Syrian Army is being mopped up between Aleppo and the Turkish border, so this is coming to an end. Now, they can always maintain low to medium guerrilla warfare. That I think they can do for quite a while longer.

But in terms of a serious force that can occupy territory and hold it, they’ve tried in the middle of July to decapitate the government. That didn’t work. They had a bombing campaign towards the end of September. That didn’t work.

It looks like the Free Syrian Army, so-called, is facing defeat and this is why Erdogan is so hysterical, that he’s got to do something before this dissolves completely on the ground.

Al-Assad Urges Syrian-Turkish Investigation for Shelling Incident

Amid the escalated tension between Syria and Turkey, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad announced that Syria has problems with the Turkish government and *not* the Turkish people.

In an interview with the Turkish Idynlik daily, al-Assad confirmed that “Syria has no problems with either the Turkish people nor the army. We have never shown any hostility towards them.”

“Syria has always maintained a friendly attitude towards the Turkish people, however we do oppose the Turkish regime, due to its problematic behavior around our mutual border,” he clarified.

“The lack of negotiation channels between the two countries have a negative impact on bilateral relations,” he said and noted that “investigations continue on the shelling of Turkish borders.”

The Syrian president also stressed Turkey to combine forces with his country in order to investigate the [supposed] Syrian mortar attack on Turkey, suggesting rebel forces were behind the incident.

“Are the rebels responsible for the incident? Or did the Syrian Army miss its target?” al-Assad wondered.

Meanwhile, he called for a joint Turkish-Syrian investigation as he explained that the matter needs cooperation from both sides.

Colombia apology for devastation in Amazon rubber boom

Backed by Colombia’s government, a Peruvian firm tapped rubber from 1912 to 1929 near La Chorrera in the south.

Up 100,000 people were killed and communities devastated, according to indigenous leaders.

President Juan Manuel Santos asked for forgiveness “for all the dead and their orphans”.

He apologised “in the name of a company [the Peruvian firm], a government [Colombia]”.

Greetings my relatives and friends, supporters!

I know I say this same line all the time but in reality you all are my relatives and I appreciate you. I cannot say that enough.

Some of our people, as well as ourselves have decided to call today Indigenous Day instead of Columbus Day and it makes me really think about how many People who still celebrate Columbus, a cruel, mass murderer who on his last trip to the Americas, as I have read, was arrested by his own people for being too cruel. When you consider those kinds of cruelty against our People and his status, it makes you wonder to what level he had taken his cruelty. In all of this historical knowledge that is available people still want to celebrate and hold in high esteem this murderer.

If we were to celebrate Hitler Day, or Mussolini Day, or some other murderer and initiator of violence and genocide, there would be widespread condemnation. It would be like celebrating Bush Day in Iraq. It’s kind of sad to say that even mentioning Columbus in my comments gives him more recognition that he should have. So I agree wholeheartedly with all of you out there that have chosen to call this Indigenous Day. If I weren’t Native American or as some of have come to say – Indigenous, I would still love our ways and cling to our ways and cherish our ways.

I see our ways as the way to the future, for the world. Whereas I, and others, have said over and over, and our People before us: This earth is our Mother. This earth is life. And anything you take from the earth creates a debt that is to be paid back at some time in the future by someone.

In speaking of our ways I can’t help but think of times…[in] our sweat lodge that I feel that we could be anywhere, that we are with the Indigenous People, in that time, those moments in our prayers and in our hearts there is no distance between us.

I am no longer in a prison in Florida. I can be on the prairie in South Dakota or in a lodge in British Columbia or in a lodge in South America. Or even with some of my children in a family lodge. We all need to be thankful for what we have but *we cannot afford to forget what has been taken from us.* There is no amount of freedom that I could personally receive that would be restitution enough for what they have taken from me. But if in some way my incarceration and sacrifices for our People who came before me and throughout our Indigenous history serves as a pathway to a brighter future, a healthier earth, and for life of all mankind; if it would bring us together to be of one mind in protecting the future of our People, our children, and all the future generations upon the earth, then it will have been well worth it.

*Indigenous Day should become a way of life* that embraces all that promotes life and not just a few days out of the year. If you’re standing or sitting or whatever with whoever lives around you, give your loved ones a hug for me. *Guard your freedom zealously.* Rescue Mother Earth where you can. Sweat often and know that this common man, Leonard Peltier, will always be with you in the struggle, one way or another.

May the Great Spirit bless you with the things you need and enough to share.

In an interview with the Syrian TV, [Michel] Aoun affirmed that Syria will not fall down and will win the war waged on it by the conspiring countries, reiterating that Syria is actually heading towards democracy unlike the Arab countries which toppled their governments and is the closest to democracy from [of] any other Arab country.

He said Syria will put an end to the radical extremist surge *in the region* and its win of the war would result in a new world order as the U.S. [World Tyrant] unilateralism is no longer acceptable.

Aoun emphasized that despite the painful human and big economic losses, Syria’s *steadfastness* in the face of the conspiracy has been very strong, highlighting that the administrative, judicial and military structure of the country has not been affected by the crisis.

He said Syria constitutes *an advanced model of humanity* with all its social components and it has always worked steadfastly in the face of Israel, “which stresses that it is impossible to bring it down.”

He considered that what is happening in the region is *not an ‘Arab Spring’ but rather an ‘Arab Hell’* that was planned in advance in the context of the ‘creative chaos’ declared by U.S. [World Tyrant] Secretary of State in 2006 that is aimed at establishing a ‘New Middle East’ *based on making peoples fight each other.*

Aoun said when peoples want new governments they aspire for the best, but what happened was that *the new governments have leaped backward and not forward.*

He highlighted how the freedom of belief and choice of social lifestyle is being practiced in Syria, while other Arab countries are imposing the way of eating, drinking and dressing.

He also referred to the amendment of the Syrian constitution and the launching of political and party pluralism and journalistic freedoms, noting *if* that was the opposition’s goal, it would have come to dialogue and waited for the next presidential elections so as for the Syrian people to decide their leader through the ballot boxes.

He reiterated that the leadership in Syria is the one defending democracy while the Western countries [The World Tyrant/NATO] want to overthrow this leadership by force completely ignoring the Syrian people’s desire.

Aoun stressed that *the security of Syria is Lebanon’s security,* noting that the real meaning of the policy of self-distancing adopted by the Lebanese government is for this government to keep away from taking sides and keep its people away from carrying out acts of riot in the neighboring countries.

Facebook: The *antisocial* network branded ‘disingenuous and immoral’

Facebook is just one of a number of online giants that divert much of their [poodle] UK profits through offices in Ireland or parts of Europe with lower corporation tax rates.

FDA regulation of [compounding] pharmacies has knotty history

Such efforts stretch back to the 1990s, and after vigorous pushback by compounding pharmacists, they have left a patchwork of incomplete, overlapping laws, contradictory court rulings and overall uncertainty about how much power the Food and Drug Administration has to regulate compounders.

Illegal fishing is rampant in West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea where impoverished coastal nations with little capacity to police their waters lose up to $1.5 billion in annual income to ships operating in protected zones or without proper licenses.

The European Union has set up regulations to prevent vessels involved in so-called illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing from accessing European markets.

In his review of The United States And Torture, edited by Marjorie Cohn (New York University Press, 2011) in the Fall 2012 Independent Review, Anthony Gregory writes:

“In Reagan’s America, a common theme in Cold War rhetoric was that the Soviets tortured people and detained them without cause, extracted phony confessions through cruel violence, and did the unspeakable to detainees who were helpless against the full, heartless weight of the Communist state. As much as any other evil, torture differentiated the bad guys, the Commies, from the good guys, the American people and their government. However imperfect the U.S. system might be, it had civilized standards that the enemy rejected.”

By 2005, a year after torture photos from Abu Ghraib were leaked, polls of Americans showed that 38% had succumbed to the propaganda that torture was justified in some circumstances. After four more years of neoconservative advocacy of torture, an Associated Press poll reported in 2009 that 52% of Americans approved of torture.

Torture apparently was an instrument of US cold war policy. Torture was taught to Latin American militaries by the US School of the Americas, which operated in Panama and subsequently at Fort Benning, Georgia. However, this was a clandestine operation.

It awaited the neoconservative Bush regime for US Department of Justice (sic) attorneys, graduates of the best law schools, to write legal memos justifying torture despite US statutory and international laws prohibiting torture, and for both the president and vice president of the United States to openly acknowledge and justify torture. Some of the criminals who wrote these memos are now teaching in prestigious law schools. One was appointed to the federal judiciary and sits as a judge sentencing others for their offenses.

We can conclude with Anthony Gregory that it is not only foreign political regimes that are corrupted by Washington’s evil, but also Americans themselves. “Nothing better demonstrates the moral degeneracy of American political culture than the U.S. torture state.”

[Syrian Arab Republic] Foreign and Expatriates Ministry: The Syrian Civilian Aircraft Forced to Land in Ankara Airport Carr[ied] No Weapons

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry said that the Syrian plane took off from Moscow Airport yesterday at 14:26 pm with a number of Syrian and Russian passengers onboard.

After entering the Turkish air space, and at 17:20 pm, the Turkish authorities addressed the pilot to modify the GPS data and gave him illogical GPS that is different from the pre-set flight course.

Then, suddenly and without warning, the pilot noticed that Turkish warplanes accompanied him and forced him to land in Ankara Airport.

After landing, nobody approached the plane till two hours later.

Passengers were [then] asked to go to the waiting hall after which the Turkish security authorities subjected the plane to search and assaulted the plane crew, not to mention locking [up] the contents of the plane for long hours, in addition to having reservations on some contents for inspection.

The Syrian plane arrived in Damascus Airport today at dawn.

It is a must here to clarify the fact that the plane contents were already listed on the bill of lading and the payload, the ministry said, adding that the plane was carrying no weapons or prohibited goods in accordance with the unblemished international reputation of the Syrian Arab Airlines.

The ministry added that the Syrian government calls upon the Turkish authorities to return the rest of the plane’s contents intact.

The ministry said there might be articles in the international laws and agreements that allow a state to search planes passing through its airspace,

but *the problem is* the Turkish government’s flagrant violation of these laws and agreements through *forcing* the plane to land

despite the fact that the pilot did *not* refuse to modify the flight course

which exposed the safety of the plane and the passengers to threats because of the sudden appearance of the Turkish warplanes without warning,

not to mention the inhuman locking [up] the civilian passengers for many hours and assaulting the crew.

The ministry considered the hostile Turkish behavior an additional evidence on the *aggressive* policy adopted by Erdogan’s government taking into account the training, harboring and facilitating infiltration through its borders and *bombing the Syrian territories.*

The Ministry concluded that despite the condemned hostile behavior of the Turkish government, this will not affect our commitment to the friendship relations between the Syrian and Turkish peoples which are greater and much more important than any government.

South Africa ‘suffering from Irish coffee society’

The ANC’s Secretary General has bemoaned South Africa’s “Irish coffee society” where there is a “concentration of black at the bottom and the white cream on top with a sprinkling of chocolate.”

Gwede Mantashe said that the races were now mixing in their home neighbourhoods and schools, but there was still a lack of proper integration in business and in the poorest areas, the races had not integrated at all.

*”We can’t have a society that is described as equal when it is not,”* he told his audience at a speech in Johannesburg on Wednesday night.

…Mantashe said that many businesses still only adhered reluctantly to the government’s Black Economic Empowerment legislation, which seeks to transfer ownership from mainly white into black hands.

Officials reporting from Shahwalikot district say that a white bearded elder killed and wounded 3 foreign invaders yesterday.

Crimes by ATF and DEA informants not tracked by feds

U.S. Justice Department rules put strict limits on when and how agents at the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives can authorize their informants —-often drawn from the ranks of the criminals they are investigating-— to commit a crime.

But both the ATF and DEA acknowledged, in response to open-records requests and in written statements, that they do not track how often such permission is given.

In 2005, the DEA estimated it had 4,000 informants, and two years later the FBI said in a budget request that its agents had 15,000 more.

VLADIMIR PUTIN: How did things go in Turkey?

CEO AND CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF SBERBANK OF RUSSIA: That was difficult work. Unfortunately, we had only a short time and faced stiff competition for this Turkish bank [DenizBank]. We and the National Bank of Qatar were the final contenders in the race to buy what is Turkey’s sixth-biggest bank. The bank is a good and very modern asset. It was being sold off by Belgian bank Dexia, one of Europe’s biggest banks. Dexia did not actually want to sell the bank at all, but had to at the regulator’s request.

The sales price was 1.3 percent of the capital value, around 2.7 billion euros. By the end of the year, depending on the actual results at the moment of sale, we will have to pay an additional sum in line with the change in net assets’ value, in other words, the bank’s profit over the course of this year. This will add on around 170 million euros. Overall then, the acquisition cost comes to around 3 billion euros, that is, approximately $4 billion.

This is Sberbank’s biggest foreign acquisition ever, and it is a high-quality asset. The bank will make around $400 million in net profit this year on the Turkish market, and next year’s forecast is for net profit of $600 million. The acquisition gives us a good platform because in addition to being on the Turkish market, the bank is also present in five other countries, thus offering us a good platform for working in Asia. It has a good team and well-organised operations and product range. The bank is Turkey’s second-biggest lender in the agriculture sector, and we hope to obtain a good multiplying effect through our work with this asset. We can transfer some of our modern methods there, and there is a lot that we can transfer from there to Russia, especially as regards operations in the agriculture sector and work with small and medium-sized enterprises.

The regulators have all reacted very positively to us. After the acquisition, the Turkish regulator lowered our capital adequacy ratio from 15 to 12 percent, which frees up capital for us. We will be able to steadily develop the bank for a number of years ahead now without having to inject more capital. I think the acquisition will help us to build an excellent bridge between our two economies. Turkey has big growth potential and we are Turkey’s second-biggest trading partner today, and first in terms of the rate at which our trade is growing.

VLADIMIR PUTIN: Turkish companies are very active and if the bank can service them and service the respective trade turnover, it will only benefit.

GERMAN GREF: Added to this, Mr President, is the fact that 1,400 Russian companies are working on the Turkish market now, including our strategic partner Rosatom, which has made huge investment in building a nuclear power plant.

VLADIMIR PUTIN: Yes, this is a big project.

GERMAN GREF: I think we will be able to develop the business over the next few years and create a good bridge for Russian companies working on the Turkish market.
